One of the oldest Universities in India, the University of Madras is entering 163
rd year of its existence
in 2021-2022. The University of Madras, organized on the model of London University, was incorporated on
5
th September1857 by an Act of the Legislative Council of India. The University has as its motto ‘Doctrina Vim
Promovet Insitam’ meaning ‘learning promotes (one’s) innate talent’.
Candidates shall read the Prospectus carefully before Online registration for Admission.
How to apply: Application submitted through online shall be printed and the scanned soft copy emailed to
respective departments and also sent the hard copy directly to the Head of the concern Department
(as per department wise given address and email id provided below) along with duly self-attested
proof for the payment of application cost and copies of necessary certificates with documents (SSLC and
HSC certificates, Community certificate if claimed, Transfer certificate (TC), Statement of marks,
Provisional/Degree certificate, Proof for any concession claimed etc. duly self-attested) on or before
31.07.2021.
Eligibility:
Candidates who have completed a Postgraduate Programme at any of the University Departments will be
eligible to apply for another PG Programme or M.Phil. Programme provided,
a) The candidate has no arrears in the previous Postgraduate Programme.
b) The Candidate should not have violated the “University of Madras Students Conduct
Rules”, and
c) The candidate should submit a recommendation letter from the Head of the
Department where he/she had undergone the Postgraduate Programme.
